So you wanna dye your hair but you don't want to commit to a single color? Fear not my frivolous one for the answer to your dilemma is fairly cheap and easy! Just follow the steps below:
1. Go to your local art store or maybe even dollar store and purchase pastel CHALKS at are intended for artwork - Not the oil pastels or you will never get the color out and given the consistency it may very well ruin your hair. You could also purchase hair chalks, but those are expensive and aren't much different from the one you can buy at the art store.
2. Place the colors you wish to use in a small cup of water
3. Brush and dampen your hair. Some say you can skip wetting your hair if it is light in color but I found it nearly impossible to apply these dry and I am bleachy blond at the moment.
4. Wrap a towel around your shoulders as the color will go elsewhere until it is set.
5. Take out a section of hair that you wish to color, twist it lightly, and apply the wet chalk in a DOWNWARD motion - Never up because this will cause your hair to knot and may damage it.
6. After you have applied color to all the places you wish to have colored, blow dry, iron, or air dry your hair. Do not remove the towel or attempt to get dressed until your hair is dry because the color will not be set until it is. When you can run your hand down your hair and have no color turn up on it, you're ready!
Now to clean up! The chalk will come off the sink pretty easy and if it doesn't come off with a good wiping, just scrub with baking soda - this will clean off your hands as well unless you decide to wear gloves during application.
To remove the color, simply go into the shower and scrub away. If you have lighter hair, it may take a couple of washings to come out - mine came out pretty easy and I have A LOT of hair.
